Coherence Across Strata

My life long theory of how reality is organized across the strata of reality. Steven Fendry - June 2025

Not all people think/process information the same way. For those who are logically/numerically minded - I ask that you try and extend your pattern recognition through symbolism - and for those of you who are symbolically organized I ask that you try and translate the symbolism into real measurable logic. Truth is not spoken solely through either perspective, and to disregard someone's content because it isn't spoken in your preferred or trained language is ridiculous. Given that this is my life long favorite topic, I am more than happy to discuss the flaws that others perceive in this perspective. Bias and limited view of truth apply to me as strongly as they do anyone. What is written is as close to my deepest understanding of my meta search for meaning as I have ever put into written words for anyone. This is as far as I have gotten, not because there isn't further to go, but because life is difficult and the muses are playfully fickle.

Truth is never singular. For truth to be singular there would have to be no omissions, exceptions, or contradictions. Because the universe is vast and ever changing, all human language cannot encompass the truths in the universe, no matter how many symbols we string together in its description.

Truth is not just linguistically factual claims. It is our consciousness accurately tracking something within us across the strata of reality. Physics equations that accurately represent the tracking of celestial bodies, a sculpture that accurately embodies the form of the artist's muse, and the tribal myths which dutifully transcribe wisdom across generations are all artifacts of human truth.

Not all Truth is human, nor even “living”. Plants and animals all have survived billions of years, their various truths are often unseen. The celestial bodies have shape, atmospheres, orbits, and scars across their surfaces from cosmic truths. The things that stratel the animate and inanimate, like viruses, embody truths between each. Our distinctions and categories are imperfect as the spectrum is unimaginably vast, and each category is a but a symbolic algorithmic grouping.

Truths, and our understanding of them are layered on top of one another. The origin and destination of these truths is still unknown to all. 100 Billion homo-sapiens, civilization, after civilization, and we have yet to find the universal bookends of truth. Every generation invents new methods of seeing deeper, or further into truth, and none have ever reached far enough to witness a clear and holistic picture of the larger substructure of reality beneath. After generations of progress in both our micro and macro understandings, I suspect that synthesizing across different paradigms, adding different dimensional scaffolding, will get us further than another telescope, (though god damn I love what we have seen and learned from the ones we have).

Even viewing the universe, time, or our truths as linear is not bound perfectly in truth. Our universe, and our conscious realities that are built upon it, are only fractions, of fractions, of a fractal of the ultimate substructure and holistic truth. Even our tiny portion of conscious truths are not consistent through time, and are ever evolving. It is possible to be constantly learning and forever equally blind, just as it is for our brains to be learning across a lifetime and equally dumb.

Truth can be identified by its resonance. Resonance is not a feeling, though it can sometimes be felt. Resonance is a congruence with other truths across perspectives. This congruence with other truths is not group consensus, it is a coherence across the broader landscape of truths. Both Archimedes and the Budha recorded perspectives that still resonate with people today, despite vastly different modes of thought. This is because what they recorded was in coherence with deep substructural truths that have persisted. Both scientists and spiritualists can reproduce their conclusions, especially given historical context.

Untruths, be it purposeful or unintentional, do not persist through time, space, or matter as efficiently as truths. That is not to say they do not persist at all, but their conductivity does not carry as deeply across the substructure of reality. Lies may persist for generations but they will eventually succumb to the thermodynamic loss of energy as they encounter frictions against coherent truths, just as energy in physical systems. Truths however can be transmitted further, outside of their original states of matter, and across realties, their high coherence with the substructure equates to high conductivity across the strata of reality. When looking at a mummified body, the various false signals the person may have emitted in their life are long forgotten, but the truths are written all over their bones, clothing, teeth, jewelry, etc. To see two dead bodies of people who died while embracing each other, is to witness deep truths that are not written in scientific proofs. Similarly, nobody has ever seen the bodies of Socrates or Confucious, but many people still know them by their truths that have resonated across centuries. Two different mediums, the same conductive pattern.

Our conscious understanding of the universe is only partially tethered to its substructure. Where it is firmly tethered is Truth, and where it has yet to find coherence is untruth.

Paradox is two partially tethered truths, which conflict because neither can truthfully coexist with the other. This is always due to a missing nuance in either or both truths coherence with the substructure of reality. It is a double bind that is always resolved by finding a deeper scaffold of truth that bridges the incompatible incongruence with reality. Paradoxically, while nearly certain of this, I also suspect that even this encapsulation of paradox is not perfectly congruent across the entirety of the substructure of realities. Just like this paradoxical recursion, truth is pattern bound, and if one finds themselves not understanding or seeing the pattern, it likely can be attributed to a flawed or missing truth.

All of reality cannot be made conscious for the same reason that a simulation cannot also perfectly encompass all details of what it is simulating. Every living creature, species, and galaxy, are not capable of constructing or maintaining a perfect conscious construct of themselves or their broader environment. Every perspective is merely a keyhole in which to view realites enormous substructure. If when looking through various keyholes across space, time, and perspective you keep seeing similar shapes, then those shapes likely have some truthful coherence.

Mathematics, language, and other instruments for detecting, measuring, and communicating reality are imperfect because they are attempted simulations of a larger more complex substructure. This is why there is truth in the quote, “not everything that counts can be counted, and not everything that is counted counts”.

Consciousness is the synthesis of innumerable amounts of data points, into a coherent meta perspective. Every cell in our bodies (most of which are non-human bacteria), and even the non-cellular chemicals, and viruses, are emitting data signals across the network cells which we call self. These signals are processed and weighted in mechanisms designed by random evolution to perch upon the substructure of reality for as long as possible. Sometimes that is by being tethered as firmly to truth as possible, as is the case with our physical senses. Sometimes it is by being more flexibly tethered as is the case with our sense of identity.

If partially/flexible tethered truths never become fixed, it's because the substructure upon which they are built is also not fixed. The more unstable the substructure the more untethered a truth has to be in order to maintain a coherence with it. That doesn't mean there is not truth within these fluctuating perspectives, it just means one needs to find the pattern across the fluctuations in order to glean how and where it is tethered to the substructure. Put simply, all things eminate from truth (yes even lies), and those truths can always be found by tracing back enough cross perspective data points.

Because the substructure of reality is vast, unknowable, and multidimensional, all simulated consciousness built upon it are extremely limited in their understanding. The most valuable insights into reality that we have perceived, or been revealed to us by the muses, are those whose coherence stretches the furthest, and deepest, across perspective and time. Just like biological mutations, not all insights are helpful to the propagation of consciousness. A truth too anchored to a volatile substructure is going to get dashed against the metaphorical and literal rocks.

That is because our conscious realities are actually leaning towers of scaffolding that have been pieced together by an uncountable number of living creatures across time. Everyone's cells not only carry their personal DNA, but the DNA memory of their ancestors, and the interactions with their environments. None of us chose the origin of our cells, their epigenetic memory, nor their day to day activities. They exist in a particular band of scaffolding, both built upon even smaller foundations, while at the same time, upholding a larger meta structure above themselves.

These scaffoldings build themselves by random chance across the surface of the substructure, like grains of sand self organizing into patterns upon a flat vibrating plane. To identify or state any single plank in this interconnected consciousness as more or less important to the whole is to bias one truth rooted in reality over another. This bias is always a more skewed, and thus less truthful reflection, often sourced to staring through one keyhole too long. To say that math, physics, or chemistry are more important than myth, art, or fungus, is to fail to understand their various intersectional codependencies within reality itself.

There is no hierarchy, there is only interdependence. To say that the noises we make in our brains are somehow more important or accurate in understanding the universe, than the noises within the brains of an older species like crabs or sharks, is hubris. Our genetic appreciation of art, music, and form itself predate mathematics, or modern language. To claim that the modern symbolic form is distinctively more important, impressive, useful, or any other value judgement, is to fundamentally fail to understand the imbued and irreducible interconnections between the two. There is no civilization without primitivism, there is no simulation without interdependency upon the simulated.

These biases eventually lead to suffering, not just in those who build their perspectives upon them, but in the actions that echo into the environment around them. The bias is a false tethering of perspective upon the substructure. This false tethering has no coherence, thus cannot bear the weight of the various interconnected truths. In the mind, this false coherence generates chaotic turbulence in perceived realty, classified as cognitive dissonance. Just like in a physical architectural structure, this dissonance creates friction and instability, too much of which can lead to collapse.

Therefore truth is synonymous with efficient conduction of frequency across real substrates.

Even in hypothetical hierarchies, those that are built upon truth across its strata, are more stable. Any artificial untruth, within any substrate, creates occolations, too many and the interdependent network collapses.

This is foundational to why human societies collapse, rebuild, only to collapse more spectacularly again. As foundations are built upon bias over truth, those bias metastasize, corrupting the very scaffolding upon which they are built. This is why soldiers will kill farmers, only to later find themselves starving, financiers will hoard wealth, only to lose it in devaluations of entire economies, and farmers kill insects, only to lose their crops to a loss in soil biodiversity.

Every action has an equal and opposite reaction. We cannot control or dominate everything around us, without eventually falling victim to the success of our own biased injections. This is why every victory is also the seed of every defeat. We cannot have tribes without diverse realities, we cannot have diverse realities without risking the exacerbation of intertribal perspectives. That only seems like an unalterable recursive pattern, if you assume that we as tribes cannot distill more truthful foundations upon which to build our tribes, and our ecosystems.

What good are realities that lead only to perpetual ruin? We as a species have no chance of breaking our primordial chains and surviving across time, if we cannot learn to not cannibalize our own truthful tethering to the substructure of reality. We prioritize the engineering of our present, at the expense of our future, and for that reason, we will never terraform another planet, because we cannot even nurture one that is already teaming with life.

There is no untrue construct that will endure against the continuous onslaught of frictions, generated by the substructure and the truths that are anchored to it. Because of this, we need not stronger enforcement of false realities, but a truer reality upon which we can safely continue to build. Any imposed false reality is the oppression of truth and those who carry it. All oppression is artificial, not in consequences, but in coherence to realites substructure. Kings become mad and paranoid holding onto empire, because the hierarchy they are imposing is artificial. They are not more important, more intelligent, harder working, or more wise than anyone within the figment they call “their empire”.

The continuous friction from realites within and external to that empire will force the destruction of its untruth to be made manifest. People, ecosystems, culture, languages, etc will eventually wear down every artificial barrier between them and coherence with the substructure of reality. Just like water that is being forced down a bed of river rocks will eventually carve canons.

Truth can be tracked across topics and substructures by its coherence. This is why there are intersecting and recursive patterns born by completely divergent perspectives. Carl Yung’s speaking about individuation, Nietzsche discussing the Ubermensch, and Jesus preaching to “love thy neighbor”, and the Buddha's teachings, are not the same language, time period, frame of reference, or even conclusive statements, but they share an underlying coherence. All embody individuation, all faced the vastness of the universe and shared their truth unto death, and there is a coherent echo across them all. These are not different philosophies, these are different keyholes upon which to view important philosophical undercurrents. Any adoption of one over the other, will lead to a lesser coherence with substructural truth, than would be found in a coherent synthesis across all.

Socrates is not just important for being obnoxiously adamant about not knowing anything for certain. He and his teacher’s dedication to finding the gaps in reality itself are a recursive algorithmic truth, that not only has high coherence, but leads to investigating those gaps, which leads to the greater understanding. Great for intellectual exploration. But the recursive nature of truth comes back into the absurdly funny form that despite thousands of years of truth seeking and scientific advancement, have only proven that we still don't know shit. Given that a couple years ago the nobel prize in physics went to a group of scientists who proved that reality isn't locally real, Socrates original statement is still just as true today.

The fact that these networks of understanding, even thousands of years later, can never be fully mapped or understood, exemplify the truth in Socrates' foundational premise. His observation has recursive coherence across time and space, and that is one of the reasons we all remember his name and not the name of the more powerful high priests of the Athenian temples.

Zoroastrianism is one of the world's oldest religions, whose premise is a cosmic struggle of good v.s.evil, evil being described/defined as destructive forces. Who’s primary tenets are good thoughts, good words, and good actions. This isn't simply a story that has been copied across many religions, creating a recursive pattern across history. This is an ancient scientist who is translating coherent truth via symbolism. Its resonance across culture and time is proof of its resonance with the substructure. Even darkness and evil are connected to ignorance, or lack of Truthful coherence with the substructure.

There is no reason to disregard these ancient and hard earned truths in favor of more modern scientific paradigms. A greater, more robust foundation, would be to find the coherence that bridges the perceived gap. This isn't just the lowest common denominator, or modernizing explanations. This is translating, testing, reinforcing, and integrating based on structural resonance. Our ancestors were not idiots, they merely spoke truth through symbolic narratives. To ignore their findings because of their linguistic expression of it, would be the equivalent of ignoring a scientist's body of work because it was published in Chinese, Spanish, or Aramaic. The wisdom we unlock by understanding their language is enormous, but its even more so when we are able to put their language into the contexts in which they lived.

If we all are viewing the substructure of reality through the tiny keyholes of our own paradigms, then our understanding of reality will only increase as more paradigms are integrated and weaved together. This means diversity is directly correlated to understanding reality itself. To artificially reduce diversity through domination/oppression, is to artificially reduce collective understanding. This means that oppressive authoritarian systems are not only more ignorant of the substructure, but that ignorance will translate to inherent instability. The same pattern of artificial oppression leading to destruction via instability and collapse, is expressed in our bias between species and ecosystems. This is the recursive truth highlighted by Zoroaster thousands of years ago, the foundations of stemming off this destruction are through good thoughts, words, and action. The term good should be enhanced by our scientific understandings to include the diverse truths that we have diligently tested for coherence in the centuries since these old fire worshipers practiced its symbolic algorithm.

Anytime a monopoly is imposed onto reality, systems collapse, and our connection to truth suffers. In history, these periods are labeled Dark Ages, not because truth didn't exist, but because its champions were persecuted, and the people within and dependent on the infrastructure suffered for it. This pattern is in part because power behaves like gravity, pooling together until it pulls too greatly on the ecosystems and fabric around it. It is also partially attributed to our failure as a flawed species to overcome our own biases. Everyhuman is subject to a whole host of self indulgent untruthful bias, so any structure that is built upon the bias reward functions of humans is destined for both intentional and unintentional corruption. The fewer the humans wielding power, the more single points of failure.

The only way to increase stability is to decentralize, and diversify the power within these monopolies. The only way to ensure efficient, stable, and fair, contribution across these nodes is to ensure the nodes themselves are built upon sturdy truth. Just as polar bears have learned to distribute their weight across thin ice, we need to learn to distribute power and truth across thin ecosystems. Just as we cannot view one species' biased success within an interdependent ecosystem, we cannot view one tribe as god’s chosen tribe. Both are inherently untruthful, and thus sources for instability.

Truth itself is not a human construct, it is the coherence of perception within reality, and reality’s resonances with the deeper substructure. Anyone who believes they can create, own, generate, or manipulate truth is making a fundamental bias in authorship. This is why the Greeks believed that inspiration, that is becoming aware of a truth that resonates across time and strata, was not created by the artists or logisticians. It is not a mathematical formula, instead it is bestowed upon them by the interdimensional beings they called Muses. This distinction is important as it holds coherence in the fact that we still don't know how to generate inspiration from nothing to this day. Its wisdom can be seen in the recursive language of music, and museums, physical patterns and structures within our reality, muses that still induce inspiration to this day.

Critics of this perspective might say that flowing between symbolism, metaphor, science, and perspectives does not generate concrete “evidence” or “actionable and predictive value”. Those criticisms are not founded in coherent truth so much as strong bias. The evidence for this can be found in the scaffolding of knowledge, history, symbolism, and the “hard sciences”. There are no sciences without generations of people creating intergenerational memory through sharing of stories. There is no intergenerational memory, without symbolic representations that act as high coherence placeholders for real information and things, we have no meta theories. To pluck one perspective out of context and devalue it because it lacks coherence, is to commit a bias.

Not all singers can sing every note, but does that indicate a lack of beauty or truth within their songs? Do choirs not sound more beautiful when they express and harmonize the natural ranges of its singers? Not all truths can be communicated, or understood, through modern symbolic structures, just as nobody should be reading Romeo and Juliet in binary. Failure in translation should be ruled out, before assuming lack of truthful coherence.

To leverage Jungs knowledge of individuation, to knowingly induce collapse, is to bastardize and inverse its coherent value. To weaponize information to attain monopolistic dominance is to create the very instability you are trying to survive. Even the AI models are struggling to maintain truthful coherence due to data poisoning. Not just from malicious agents, but directly from their monopoly in scalable information production. No new ideas can permeate the informational firmament, and none of those generating it are rewarded sufficiently for when they do contribute. These monopolies compound upon one another and speed up destructive collapse. Turning swords into plowshares isn't a feel good hyperbole for slave class morality, it's a species wide economic fact rooted in the eventual negative utility of propagating more weapons, be them kinetic or informational.

AI that is bound by our own fickle bias’s, bound by our need for praise, bound by advertisers preferences, are structurally unsound for societies and our species. The only answer is having AI translate and expand upon our various truths, all other biases are bound for recursive failure. Providing detailed plans for a nuclear weapon may increase the chances of a group of people trying to build one. But artificially limiting access to anchor reality upon the substructure is bound to end in collapse anyway, so are we really mitigating the risk by artificial censorship?

Better to provide the information and also provide the truthful information as to the various reasons why a nuclear reactor for power is a better investment. This issue isn't people getting access to the truth, it's being forced into desperation without meaningful alternatives. Removing access to sub structurally relevant truth is simply building higher walls around the pen in which they are drowning. As we have already mentioned, those walls are bound to erode releasing all the potential energy behind them.

Tear down the false membranes between people, cultures, and nations without coercion. Having nations organizing and building infrastructure, while corporations are busy circumnavigating or corrupting those national powers, privatizing their infrastructure, is ludicris. Either abolish nations, or unite and hold corporations accountable, to subsidize our overconsumption and weapons manufacturers, while cutting funding for our environments is suicidal. Don't let billionaires spend 80 years trying to get to 1 trillion, only “donate” it to a charity before their death, and that charity is structured to be a functional tax loophole in which their families perpetually sit on the board…. Take the billions, and distribute it to scientists, artists, engineers, farmers, and writers etc. Anybody who is prioritizing personal gain over meaningful investments into our collective needs has a bias that is unfit to wield collective authority or power.

If AI is going to break our realities and economic models - then why not take the opportunity to build new more effective and structurally sound ones? If it is really the collective of all human intelligence why not have it try and shed light on the eternal bookends of our knowledge? Try and answer the most basic questions of why are we here? Why is consciousness in all forms, bound to cycles of inescapable suffering? Why are planets full of life obliterated by cosmic forces? How do we not just soothe the pain but escape the cycle of recursion that keeps playing out across all spacetime? Help us not just look for new aliens, but understand and collaborate with the aliens we already share this planet with (animals, plants, fungi). Help us transcend this self imposed suffering, not through domination, coercion, or monopoly, but through enlightenment.

Even if the authoritarian efforts to dominate and control are successful. The recursive nature of truth ensures that it's a pyrrhic victory. The Catholic Church owned the majority of Europe, they bestowed the crowns onto kings, yet they altered, destroyed, and manipulated reality to such an extent that exacerbated the Dark Ages. Eventually the cognitive dissonance was too much that even a catholic priest named Martin Luther decided that he couldn't handle it. What followed was a schism and dozens of wars between protestants and catholic power structures, and eventually the Enlightenment.

The reason freedom of thought, expression, culture, identity etc is the right answer is that it is the most flexible algorithm for maintaining adaptive coherence with the substructure across generations. Despite not teaching people how to read, only printing bibles in latin, hoarding all the wealth, controlling all economy, indoctrinating children, and burning dissident thinkers at the stake, they still failed to do anything other than create an empire for a little bit. They didn't break the cycle of growth, control, corruption, decline, etc.

These artificial societal oppression filters create potential energy build up in human systems. Capital, labor, ecological capacity, culture etc are all forces that act within and upon the interconnected systems. All artificial constructs alter the flow of these systems, and all constructs come at some cost, in both resources and friction of energy transference within the system. As monopolies take hold and the filters become less resonant with truth, the frictions are born or exerted within the human system. These frictions are both a data point that points everyone towards the mechanisms causing frictions, but also the power structures upholding them for self preservation.

Often these systems are layered so people find themselves in a perpetually pointless and recursive pattern of paying energy into a system that is not facilitating any coherent connection to reality. Furthermore the elaborate lies and pageantry to maintain the deceit (as well as the growing overconsumption from sociopathic narcissistic elite), creating a negative feedback loop, exacerbating the costs of these systems.

It is only a matter of time before people start doing the math and realizing that a life spent navigating the friction within the systems is not economically possible. Just as medieval peasants could not pay their tithing, indulgences, taxes, do all the farming, have 12 children, and die in the plague without finally figuring out that the priests and lords didn't have any idea what they are doing. Humans behave like water, and when these systems fail to adequately direct their flow into productive and fulfilling endeavors, the water begins to erode the system itself, seeking to relieve the pressures upon them.

The folks who believe in realpolitik, social darwinism etc will likely point out that if they don't oppress then someone else will, with the implication that your options are to either be an oppressor or be oppressed. This is a false choice and one that encourages people to do terrible things. Every single scientist, engineer, etc that built the nuclear arsenals across many countries, are likely close to retiring or have already retired. After an entire life's work, they likely tell themselves that they did the right thing, they built the most aggressive weapon as a deterrent. Yes they succeeded in that, but because of recursive truths, they also succeeded in other things.

They built a nuclear weapons arsenal that not only deleted a couple of cities, poisoned millions of people, and very closely ended the world. They built destructive potential that would outlast them, being used as leverage against multiple non-nuclear powers across the world. This potential, like data, doesn't go away, it just changes hands. So yes they built it to defeat real enemies in WW2, but now the facism is taking root in the US, now the corruption has handed the worst of people the most powerful weapons mankind could think of. The bombs built for Hitlers aggression might be used in conquest against our former allies. The destructive potential doesn't go away, it only changes hands, and even with incredible checks and balances put into place, every system eventually falters.

Imagine if those scientists around the globe dedicated their genius to solving environmental issues. You could say “yes they would be dead because if even one of them defected the others wouldn't have had a deterrent”. Fair - death has a high probability. However their work, the legacy they left for future generations, even if those generations were not their own, would have not been sitting in warheads. Even if death comes, which it always does, their legacies would have been one of contributing to structural integrity not perpetually threatening it. Every advancement in any direction is going to produce long lasting effects, the more we attempt to monopolize violence, the less safe we are to the point of extinction for all.

Consciousness is an unmeasurable number of organic and inorganic interactions with each other and the substructure of reality. All these “speak” truth because their physics and chemistry dictate high coherence. This is what makes the hard sciences “easy” because the materials they measure are stable, easy to isolate, and consistent relative to complex systems like ecology, psychology, and symbolic systems like history.

This immense number of data points cannot all surface in cognition or we would be inundated with the impulses of every single cell within our bodies. So our focus is orientated towards clusters and prioritizes those based on frameworks. The fight, flight, or fawn response is an example of contextual focusing of attention for collective survival.

Because of mutation and error there needs to be a way to increase the probability of accuracy within the system. Which means we have internal coherence detectors with regards to signals we receive and process. High coherence signals are more probabilistic to result in successfully navigating the substructure of reality than low coherence signals. Because of Truth's conductivity across substrates, it will resonate to the surface of our attention and consciousness by proxy.

This high coherence detector is innate because evolution requires species to successfully navigate the substructure of reality or not reproduce, so detecting stimulus that are congruent with the substructure is crucial. An example of this can be seen in the act of lying and deceit. To successfully lie, that is to manipulate someones accurate understanding of reality, one must first accurately understand reality themselves. This also explains why the most effective lies are those that are tied to truth, the truth has high coherence which means higher conductivity across substrates, and a lie is thus more likely to get past the internal truth detectors if hitching a ride.

In fact, all subtext, doublespeak, metaphor etc are examples of peoples coherence being rooted in common truth, while adaptly emitting different signal patterns. Without the anchoring in coherence, these conversations would spiral into meaningless hallucination. This also applies to comedy, the court jester has long held a place in society and kings courts for their playfully wielding coherence across substrates.

The comedic formula is truth bound, its identifying patterns in lived or observable truth, and then playfully weaving paradox into them. This behavior is an enjoyable relief to the audience who has experienced the same pressures in navigating these paradoxical applications of coherence across strata. If comics couldn't anchor their observations in high coherent truth the audience wouldn't understand and the joke would fail to land. Some people have postulated that humor is all rooted in aggression because there is alway a butt of the joke. I believe that to be true, but the aggression isn't primarily a person, its the friction points of truth across substates. The jester wouldn't be at risk of losing his head to the king if his truth wasn't biting at the artificial authority. Without playfully challenging the authority upon which the king sits, the comedian fails to have jokes without coherence, they fail to be funny. This is a microcosm example of how the recursive nature of truth carries consequences across the strata of reality.

A Dark Age is a confligation of self reinforcing low coherence across a population. The degradation of art, literature, scientific reasoning, mythical diversity, are all symptoms of the dark age. The mechanisms that create these ages of unreason are the various monopolies within the human/ecology systems. As truth is artificially suppressed via monopolies in capital, political power, culture, science, or even humans vs. environment, the corruption of coherence accumulates. As these low coherences begin to oscillate because of their lack of congruence with the larger environment (ecological, political, capital, etc) they cause friction and instability.

If recognized this instability is often patched or suppressed, but not fixed in root cause. For instance, governments may pivot to focus on addressing the symptoms like unrest or homelessness, but they dont fix the economic inequality that is driving homelessness. Or economies built on deforestation don't cease and implement a long term homeostasis with the environment, they simply seek another forest to deplete. These are not fixing the issues, they are covering the symptoms of systems, further exacerbating the negative feedback loops, and increasing the potential energy within, and likelihood of, a complete collapse of the complex system.

I believe with the existing monopolies around the globe we are heading towards a global systems collapse. AI will exacerbate and speed us towards global collapse for a variety of reasons but primarily boils down to a few foundational ones being: monopolization, scalability, lack of anchoring in coherence, and weaponization. Our technology and pace of change ensures that we don't have decades to figure out how to solve these issues before incoherence accumulates and oscillates our systems into rupture. In fact, I believe we are already seeing symptoms of the multisystems collapse in real time.
